I created these 2 pieces to submit to an upcoming exhibit in Chicago. My abstractions increasingly include words, symbols & images. I wanted to do abstracts this time rather than representaional. Another artist asked , knowing my work, “How can you do that so small?” I replied,” same process, just smaller scale” I often have title for my artworks before I begin them. I initially thought of "WE & ME, but quickly switched to ONE & The Other. While we all have bits of all these traits and motivization, it seems each are dominated by some over the others.
I began with my tonal ground and base colors One being dominated by BLUE & The Other by RED. Once I cordinated the color combos for each I began a bit of sgraffito, scratching & graffiti. ONE had words and symbols like dream, beauty, magic, imagine, faith, hope charity, peace, love & light etched into it. The Other had vile, evil, live, denie, deflect, project, lie, cheat & steal into it. Then oil paint, oil pastel, ebony pencil, charcoal, as I built, scratched & sbribbled it up and over it. One has a dominate circle O, symbol and The Other an X, each have my infinity symbol and are finished with 18k gold leaf, symbolizing the eternal battle of good and evil, even when some are unable to tell one from the other?
Several years ago,I had participated in their Ten by Ten exhibition at Jackson Junge Gallery, Chicago, Il. it was perhaps the absolute best and well attended exhibition I’ve ever been part of.

Following the massive success of TEN by TEN during the past four gallery seasons, Jackson Junge Gallery is excited to announce that they will be running the exhibition for a fifth year. TEN by TEN is a yearly celebration of our diverse arts community, as well as an opportunity for both emerging artists and seasoned creators to exhibit alongside one another. With each piece in TEN by TEN being a compact 10” x 10”, the show provides a sampling of each artist’s work and an opportunity for art lovers to discover new artists.
